David Bronner
"Cosmic Engagement Officer" (CEO) Dr. Bronner
It all started with a third-generation German-Jewish soapmaker who left Germany during the years before the Holocaust to live and work in the United States. After learning his parents were murdered in Nazi-controlled concentration camps, Emanuel Bronner developed a philosophy of love and unity to prevent such a tragedy from happening, again: We are responsible for ourselves but also to each other, and as we grow, we must grow responsibly.
To keep his mission going, Emanuel was selling soaps. Soon more people approached him solely for his deliciously smelling original peppermint soap than for his message. As a result, Bronner started to write his message on the soap packages.
Today, Dr. Bronner’s is a global company with more than 129 million dollar in sales. The iconic colorful bottles with the famous peace messages on them range from soap to lip balm to toothpaste.
Current CEO and grandson of Emanuel, David Bronner is taking his grandfather's message further. All major raw ingredients used in the products are organically certified and fair trade certified. As the company keeps growing, about a third of the profits per year is given to progressive causes such as food and agricultural projects. Of late, the company teamed up, among others, with outdoor clothing brand Patagonia. Together, they launched the Regenerative Organic Certification label for farmers and companies who process and sell agricultural products to better identify themselves as regenerators. So far, recipient of the certification include farms in India, USA, Nicaragua, Argentina and many more.
